Study Overview
The Jordanelle Special Service District (JSSD) is planning improvements to its existing Wastewater Reclamation Facility (WRF) to meet the needs of the area's growing population. The proposed Phase II expansion would increase the facility's treatment capacity and allow additional highly treated water to be discharged into the Timpanogos and Wasatch Canals, helping support continued growth within the JSSD service area in Wasatch County.
Because the proposed project involves discharges to federally owned water facilities, the U.S. Department of the Interior (Interior) and the Central Utah Water Conservancy District (CUWCD), in cooperation with JSSD, are preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The EA will evaluate the proposed improvements, consider reasonable alternatives, and assess potential environmental impacts.
The JSSD WRF, located near the Jordanelle Reservoir along U.S. Highway 40, has served the growing communities surrounding the reservoir for many years. As development continues throughout the Jordanelle Basin, the proposed expansion is intended to provide reliable wastewater treatment infrastructure while ensuring environmental considerations are carefully evaluated through the NEPA process.
